Oral, between 25 milligrams hydrochlorothiazide and 100 milligrams hydrochlorothiazide, divided daily, 1 to 2 doses in total. The maximum allowed total dose is 200 milligrams hydrochlorothiazide daily.

Detailed description

The usual dose is 25 to 100 mg daily given as a single dose or in two divided doses. Many patients respond to intermittent therapy; for example every other day or 3 to 5 days a week. Intermittent therapy is less likely to produce excessive diuretic response with resulting undesirable electrolyte imbalance.

An initial dose of up to 200 mg may be necessary in some patients, but larger doses have no additional effect.

2.5 mg/kg body weight daily in 2 divided doses

Detailed description

The dosage is determined according to body weight. A suggested initial dose for children is 2.5 mg per Kg body weight daily in 2 divided doses.
