Detailed description

Initial treatment

The recommended dose of famotidine is 40 mg per day, given at night. Treatment should be given for 4 to 8 weeks, but the duration of treatment may be shortened if endoscopy shows that the ulcer has healed. In most cases of duodenal ulcers, healing occurs within 4 weeks with this treatment regimen.

In patients in whom the ulcer has not fully healed after 4 weeks, treatment should be continued for another 4 weeks.

Maintenance treatment

To prevent recurrence of duodenal ulcer, it is recommended to continue treatment with 20 mg per day, administered at night. This dosage regimen has been effectively continued in 1-year clinical trials.

Dosage considerations

Before bedtime.

Active ingredient
