Docosahexaenoic acid Other names: Doconexent

Chemical formula: C₂₂H₃₂O₂  Molecular mass: 328.488 g/mol  PubChem compound: 445580

Interactions

Docosahexaenoic acid interacts in the following cases:

Antithrombotic agents

Due to the moderate increase in flow time (at high dosage) by omega-3 fatty acid, patients treated with anticoagulants should be monitored and, if necessary, the dosage of the anticoagulant should be adjusted.

Warfarin

Omega-3 fatty acids have been co-administered with warfarin without bleeding complications. However, the prothrombin time should be checked when omega-3 fatty acid are co-administered with warfarin or when treatment with omega-3 fatty acid is discontinued.

Pregnancy

There are no adequate data from the use of docosahexaenoic acid in pregnant women.

Studies in animals have not shown reproductive toxicity. The potential risk for humans is unknown and therefore docosahexaenoic acid should not be used during pregnancy unless clearly necessary.

Nursing mothers

There are no data on the excretion of docosahexaenoic acid in animal and human milk. Docosahexaenoic acid should not be used during lactation.

Carcinogenesis, mutagenesis and fertility

Fertility

There are no adequate data on the effect of docosahexaenoic acid on fertility.

Effects on ability to drive and use machines

Effects on ability to drive and use machines have not been studied. Nevertheless, docosahexaenoic acid is expected to have no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.

Cross-check medications

Review your medication to ensure that there are no potentially harmful drug interactions or contraindications.
