Therapeutic indications

Drotrecogin alfa is indicated for:

Severe sepsis with multiple organ failure

Population group: only adults (18 - 65 years old)

Drotrecogin alfa is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with severe sepsis with multiple organ failure when added to best standard care. The use of drotrecogin alfa should be considered mainly in situations when therapy can be started within 24 hours after the onset of organ failure.

Contraindications

Drotrecogin alfa is contraindicated in the following cases:

Chronic severe hepatic disease

Hepatic failure stage IV

Active internal bleeding

Bleeding

Intracranial neoplasm, cerebral herniation

Cerebral herniation

Heparin

Heparin group

Platelet count <30,000 x 10⁶/l

at least one of
Platelet count below reference range
Thrombocytopenic disorder
