Pharmacodynamic properties

Topical application of hydroquinone produces a reversible depigmentation of the skin by inhibition of the enzymatic oxidation of tyrosine to 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (dopa). Exposure to sunlight or ultraviolet light will cause repigmentation of bleached areas.
