Hymecromone

Chemical formula: C₁₀H₈O₃  Molecular mass: 176.169 g/mol  PubChem compound: 5280567

Pharmacodynamic properties

Hepatobiliary medicinal product. Hymecromone has a spasmolytic effect on extrahepatic bile ducts. This action takes place through a musculotropic mechanism, without atropinic effects. Increased choleresis is also observed without excitation of gall bladder contraction.

Pharmacokinetic properties

Peak plasma concentrations are reached 2 to 3 hours after an oral dose.

Hymecromone concentrates strongly in bile and follows an enterohepatic cycle.

The plasma half-life is approximately 1 hour.

Hymecromone is excreted in the urine as glucurono- and sulfo-conjugates.
