Therapeutic indications

Obeticholic acid is indicated for:

Primary biliary cholangitis

Population group: only adults (18 years old or older)

Obeticholic acid is indicated for the treatment of primary biliary cholangitis (also known as primary biliary cirrhosis) in combination with ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) in adults with an inadequate response to UDCA or as monotherapy in adults unable to tolerate UDCA.

Contraindications

Obeticholic acid is contraindicated in the following cases:

Complete biliary obstruction

Obstruction of biliary tree

Patients with decompensated cirrhosis (e.g., Child-Pugh Class B or C) or a prior decompensation event

at least one of
Decompensated cirrhosis of liver
Hepatic failure stage III
Hepatic failure stage IV
