Therapeutic indications

Saxagliptin is indicated for:

Diabetes mellitus type 2

Population group: only adults (18 years old or older)

Saxagliptin is indicated in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycaemic control:

as monotherapy when metformin is inappropriate due to intolerance or contraindications
in combination with other medicinal products for the treatment of diabetes, including insulin, when these do not provide adequate glycaemic control.

Contraindications

Saxagliptin is contraindicated in the following cases:

End-stage renal disease

Renal failure stage 5: Kidney failure (GFR <15 mL/min/1.73 m2 or dialysis)
