5.1. Pharmacodynamic properties

Xylometazoline belongs to the group of arylalkylimidazolines. It promotes decongestion of the mucous membranes and a reduction in nasal secretions. The effect is rapid and particularly long-lasting.

Carbocistein decreases the viscosity of the secretions and clears the upper respiratory tract.

The spray does not contain a propellent gas and it guarantees an exact dosage and a good distribution.

Triofan is well tolerate and its administration is painless and non-irritating.

5.2. Pharmacokinetic properties

No considerable absorption occurs with proper intranasal administration. Should xylometazoline accidentally enter into the gastro-intestinal tract, then absorption would occur rapidly.

Metabolism and elimination data are unknown. Vasoconstriction begins after 3-5 minutes and last approximately 9 hours.

5.3. Preclinical safety data

There are no pre-clinical data of relevance to the prescriber which are additional to that already included in other sections of the Summary of Product Characteristics.
