Pharmacodynamic properties

Antazoline is a first generation antihistamine. It competitively blocks the receptor histamine H1. It inhibits allergic symptoms, especially those related to the release of histamine. It stabilizes the cell membrane, which results in its antiarrhythmic properties, quinidine-like. May improve atrioventricular conduction by action anticholinergics and accelerate ventricular rate in patients with tachycardia atrial and atrioventricular conduction block and in patients with atrial flutter or fibrillation.

Like other first-generation drugs, it has anticholinergic and centrally depressing effects. Even after serving intravenously, its effects are revealed with some delay, which is the reason why in extremely severe allergic reactions, it is an adjuvant drug.

Pharmacokinetic properties

Antazoline is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Effect after oral administration starts after 15-30 minutes and lasts for 4 to 6 hours. Maximum performance occurs after 1-2 hours. After intravenous administration, the antiarrhythmic effect almost begins immediately, but the antiallergic effect is somewhat delayed. The drug penetrates the barrier blood-brain and through the placenta. It is metabolized in the liver and excreted mainly by the kidneys.
