Therapeutic Indications

Bisacodyl is indicated for:

Relief of constipation

Irrespective of gender only Adolescents (12 years - 18 years old) Adults (18 years old or older)

  • Short term relief of constipation.
  • Constipation, either chronic or of recent onset, whenever a stimulant laxative is required.

Treatment 1: Oral - 5–10 mg daily

Treatment 2: Rectal - 10mg daily

Bowel clearance before surgery

Irrespective of gender only Adolescents (12 years - 18 years old) Adults (18 years old or older)

Bowel clearance before surgery or radiological investigation. Replacement of the evacuant enema in all its indications.

Treatment 1: Oral - 10-30 mg daily

Contraindications

Active ingredient Bisacodyl is contraindicated in the following cases:

Rectal tears, ulcerative proctitis

No gender/age discrimination

Bisacodyl should not be administered by rectal administration in cases of rectal tears and ulcerative proctitis with mucosal injury.

Severe dehydration

No gender/age discrimination

Bisacodyl is also contraindicated in severe dehydration and in patients with Known hypersensitivity to bisacodyl or any other component of the product.

Ileus, intestinal obstruction, appendicitis, acute inflammatory bowel diseases, nausea, vomiting, severe abdominal pain

No gender/age discrimination

Bisacodyl is contraindicated in patients with ileus, intestinal obstruction, acute abdominal conditions including appendicitis, acute inflammatory bowel diseases, and severe abdominal pain associated with nausea and vomiting which may be indicative of the aforementioned severe conditions.
