Therapeutic indications

Cefprozil is indicated for:

Pharyngitis, tonsillitis

Population group: only infants (40 days - 1 year old) , children (1 year - 12 years old) , adolescents (12 years - 18 years old) , adults (18 years old or older)

Pharyngitis/tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes. The usual agent of choice in the treatment and prevention of Streptococcal infections, including the prophylaxis of rheumatic fever, is penicillin. Cefprozil is effective in the eradication of Streptococcus pyogenes from the nasopharynx. However, substantial data establishing the efficacy of cefprozil in the subsequent prevention of rheumatic feverare not available at present.

Contraindications

Cefprozil is contraindicated in the following cases:

Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin class of antibiotics, penicillins or other beta-lactam antibiotics

at least one of
Allergy to penicillin
Cephalosporin allergy
Cephamycin allergy
Monobactam allergy
Carbapenem allergy
