The combination of irbesartan and hydrochlorothiazide has an additive antihypertensive effect, reducing blood pressure to a greater degree than either component alone. Irbesartan is a potent, orally active, selective angiotensin-II receptor (AT1 subtype) antagonist. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic.
