Methylthioninium chloride is contraindicated in the following cases:

G6PD deficiency

Deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase

Nitrite-induced methaemoglobinaemia during treatment of cyanide poisoning

Toxic effect of cyanide

Methaemoglobinaemia due to chlorate poisoning

Chlorate poisoning

Deficiency in NADPH (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate) reductase

Deficiency of glutathione reductase (NAD(P)H)
