Interactions

Oxymetazoline interacts in the following cases:

Tricyclic antidepressants, thyroxine, maprotiline, monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO)

Caution is required in concomitant administration of oxymetazoline with tricyclic antidepressants, thyroxine, maprotiline, because they may enhance the hypertensive effect of oxymetazoline.

Pregnancy

The safety of oxymetazoline during pregnancy has not been established, but is not thought to constitute a hazard during these periods.

Nursing mothers

The safety of oxymetazoline during lactation has not been established, but is not thought to constitute a hazard during these periods.

Effects on ability to drive and use machines

No adverse effects known.

Adverse reactions


Occasionally may cause local irritation and dryness of the mouth and throat.

Prolonged use may cause rebound congestion and rhinitis medicamentosa.
