Polystyrene sulfonate is a cation exchange resin for the treatment of hyperkalaemia.
Ion exchange resins with a particle size ranging from 5-10 micrometres (as in polystyrene sulfonate) are not absorbed from the gastro-intestinal tract and are wholly excreted in the faeces.
